This is a place I’ve driven past so many times, and yet one where I don’t stop at often enough.
Marie Reine de la Paix is an open church on the side of Signal mountain, where you have a beautiful panoramic view of Port-Louis.
If you want to reach the actual monument, prepare your feet for a fair amount of steps (82 if I believe the info I’ve found)!
But once at the top, just allow yourself to relax and take in the absolutely gorgeous scenery. Benches are scattered here and there too if you just feel like admiring the view from one of them.
The garden is usually very well maintained with patches of colorful flowers throughout the terraces.
For the little history lesson: The constructions started in May 1940 and was inaugurated in August of the following year. The 3m white marble statue represents Mary holding a world globe.
When mass is celebrated here, it usually attracts a fair amount of people from lots of different places.
The place is closely associated with important moments of the Catholic Church.
At night, you will experience Port-Louis all lights on which is quite beautiful too, although I would still be careful not to go there alone in the evenings though.
Have you been to Marie Reine de la Paix before? Do you just drive by or do you actually stop to take in the scenery? Have you been to mass there before?
